Diamond Grading
Diamonds are graded by professional diamond evaluators. The four main grading factors are: color, clarity,
cut, and carat weight, commonly known as the 4 C's. But the diamond grading system differ a little depending on
who's the certifier. For example, the G.I.A. certificates issued by Gemological Institute of America has
only an "SI1" and an "SI2" in their "SI" grading for clarity, but E.G.L., European Gemological Laboratory,
has "SI1", "SI2", and an "SI3", giving the gems an extra SI grading before placing diamonds in the "I"
grading.
Due to these slight differences, G.I.A. certified diamonds are reputed to have better quality since
they are less lenient in their grading. A diamond certified by the G.I.A. will have higher prices.
